Gary Kemp

Gary Kemp is an English musician, songwriter, and actor, best known as a founding member of the pop band Spandau Ballet, formed in 1979. The band is often associated with the New Romantic movement and achieved significant success in the 1980s with hits like "True," "Gold," and "Through the Barricades." Kemp was the primary songwriter for Spandau Ballet, and his lyrics often combined romantic themes with a sense of social commentary. Beyond his work with Spandau Ballet, Kemp has pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album, "Little Bruises," in 1986. He has also ventured into acting, appearing in stage productions and television series, including "The Krays," where he portrayed guitarist Billy Wright. Kemp's impact on music is notable for his contributions to the sound of the 1980s pop and new wave scene, blending catchy melodies with sophisticated arrangements. Spandau Ballet's influence continues to resonate, as they were pivotal in shaping the aesthetics of the era, both musically and in fashion. In 2019, the band reunited for a UK tour, further solidifying their legacy in the annals of pop music history.
